It was the first year of the Peachtree Road Race. South DeKalb Mall opened and Jimmy Carter was elected governor of Georgia. One of the most unusual happenings of the year was 65-year-old high-wire artist and daredevil Karl Wallenda’s skywalk across Tallulah Gorge. And women who worked at City Hall were allowed to wear pants for the first time. Check out these photos from 1970, including views of Alpharetta, Chamblee, Acworth and Tucker.
